Hard Issues in Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop has a particularity that maybe no other music genre, culture and/or art form might have, it's the braggadocio, borderline ego maniacal, boast that (mostly) rappers have used since the early days of the game. Over the top bravado and comical exaggerations from rappers from the old school to the new school, from Big Bank Hank's Color TV (in reality it belonged to Grandmaster Caz, if you want to get technical), to the multiple sexual partners in different area codes that Ludacris claims on having, Rap is the synonym of male ego and machismo. We all fantasize of the life of a Rap Superstar filled with a lavish lifestyle, luxuries and many groupies just throwing themselves at us.
The past few weeks saw how one of Hip-Hop's most beloved MC, Big Boi was arrested on drug charges by Miami police. Nothing strange or even surprising about a celebrity catching a case like that, right? However, what caused a serious buzz in the web and on the latest
Pharmacy Reviews was that the Grammy winning rapper also had Viagra on his possession when it happened. Now, while many were quick to jump at the allegations and started making jokes about it, there is still no proof that the narcotics and the blue pills found on the vehicle belonged to Big Boi, in fact, there's a possibility that the pills might have been from a friend who was with him at the time.
A similar case happened to Irv Gotti, when he was arrested with a similar case. This was a series of unfortunate events that led to the downfall of Murder Inc. record label. It is certainly ironic to say the least that when an artist gets stopped with illegal drugs he is even applauded by some, but ridiculed by all when the substances that are found are actually medications to treat a health condition.
